Doggie door installation in Las Vegas comes down to picking the right spot. The three common options are cutting a pet door into an existing door, installing one through an exterior wall, or adding a panel insert to a sliding glass door. Each has tradeoffs in cost, looks and how well it seals.

A door install is the quickest. Solid wood, fiberglass and steel doors all work with the right frame kit, while hollow-core doors need the cut edges framed in. The door between the garage and the house is a fire separation, so we do not recommend cutting a pet door into it.

A sliding glass door insert is a tall panel that fits in the track beside the slider, with the pet door built in. It needs no cutting, which makes it a good fit for renters. Putting a pet door in the glass itself is a different job: tempered glass cannot be cut after it is made, so the pane has to be replaced with one made with the opening.

A wall install keeps your doors intact and lets you put the pet door exactly where it makes sense, like a laundry room that opens to the side yard. Most Las Vegas homes have stucco over wood framing, so we check the wall first for wiring, plumbing and studs, then cut from both sides and frame the opening with a tunnel kit.

Stucco needs clean cuts and careful sealing. We seal the tunnel and the exterior frame so monsoon rain stays out of the wall, and we set the flap so it closes tight. Finished edges can be painted to match the house. A wall cut is an exterior change, so in HOA communities like Summerlin or Green Valley Ranch it is worth checking your guidelines first.

A cheap single flap lets hot air, dust and bugs in all summer. For Las Vegas we suggest a double-flap or insulated model with magnetic closures and good weatherstripping, especially on west-facing walls that bake in afternoon sun. A locking cover closes the opening when you travel.

Size the door to your largest pet: the flap top should clear the pet's shoulders, and the step-over height should be comfortable for older or short-legged dogs. Measure your dog standing, or send us the measurements with a photo of the door or wall.
